Alight internet requirements for work-from-home jobs

Does your address qualify for Alight?
We check the real network at your exact address — not a coverage map — and tell you straight either way.
Alight requires high-speed broadband cable internet, hardwired to your company-issued computer, for its 100% remote positions. The published minimum varies by program — most Customer Care Representative postings ask for 20 Mbps down / 20 Mbps up, while at least one program requires 200 Mbps down / 50 Mbps up.
What Alight actually says
“Internet Connectivity Requirement/Remote Positions: For 100% remote positions, we require that (1) you have high-speed broadband cable internet service with minimum upload/download speeds of 20 Mbps/20 Mbps and (2) that the equipment supplied by your Internet provider is hardwired to your company issued computer.”— Alight remote job postings — Temporary Customer Care Representative; Customer Care Representative, Absence Management · source
Alight's rule is about the physical hardwire, not just a speed test: the equipment your ISP supplies has to be hardwired to the Alight-issued computer. Most Customer Care Representative postings we found set 20/20, but a Customer Care Representative role on the Absence Management team asks for 200 Mbps down / 50 Mbps up — a much higher bar, so confirm against the specific listing before you order service.
What passes for Alight
A wired connection — fiber, cable, or DSL — with an Ethernet cable from your computer to the router. Fiber is the strongest fit: upload speed matches download, latency stays low and consistent, and weather doesn't affect it.
If you're on satellite, a cellular hotspot, or 5G home internet, no speed test will get you past Alight's rule — the connection type is what's being checked. The fix is a wired line, installed with the Ethernet connection in the room where you'll work.

Before your Alight tech check
- Confirm a wired provider reaches your address.
- Run Ethernet to your workspace — not just to the router's room.
- Turn off Wi-Fi and any VPN on the work computer.
- Run a speed test on the wired line (target: at least 20–200 Mbps down / 20–50 Mbps up) and screenshot it.

Alight internet questions, answered
Alight permits Wi-Fi on some programs, but the connectivity scan during onboarding is run on a wired connection. Plan for Ethernet at the desk.
20–200 Mbps download and 20–50 Mbps upload. The exact minimum can vary by client program, so confirm against the job listing you are applying to.
Alight does not publish a blanket exclusion on satellite, but the speed and latency minimums still apply and satellite often fails the latency test.
Alight does not name hotspots as prohibited, but cellular service shares tower capacity and is a common cause of a failed connectivity scan.
