Amazon internet requirements for work-from-home jobs

Sourced from Amazon's published postings and policies · Verified 2026-09-15

Amazon's virtual customer service roles require a hardwired Ethernet connection rather than Wi-Fi, from a cable, DSL, or fiber provider. Satellite and cellular hotspots are not accepted. Speed minimums vary by role and are verified with a speed test during hiring — commonly 10 Mbps down / 5 Mbps up, with many listings asking for 25 Mbps or more.

What Amazon actually says

“Hardwired ethernet connection (not WiFi). High-speed internet: 25 Mbps download minimum.”— Amazon virtual customer service job postings (amazon.jobs), as summarized by RemotelyYou · source

Amazon ships the computer and headset. What it cannot ship is the connection — the speed test is run on your hardwired line, and failing it ends the process.

Does your address qualify for Amazon?

Check in 30 seconds. If a wired connection is available, we'll set it up with Ethernet at your desk before your start date.

What passes for Amazon

A wired connection — fiber, cable, or DSL — with an Ethernet cable from your computer to the router. Fiber is the strongest fit for Amazon's requirements: upload speed matches download speed, latency stays low and consistent, and weather doesn't affect it.

If you're on satellite, a cellular hotspot, or 5G home internet, no speed test will get you past Amazon's rule — the connection type is what's being checked. The fix is a wired line, installed with the Ethernet connection in the room where you'll work.

Before your Amazon tech check

  1. Confirm a wired provider reaches your address (check above).
  2. Run Ethernet to your workspace — not just to the router's room.
  3. Turn off Wi-Fi and any VPN on the work computer.
  4. Run a speed test on the wired line (target: at least 10 Mbps down / 5 up) and screenshot it.
